Place2Be

Place2Be is a children’s mental health charity with over 25 years’ experience working with pupils, families and staff in UK schools.

Place2Be provides emotional and therapeutic services in primary and secondary schools, building children's resilience through talking, creative work and play. Each school has a dedicated Place2Be mental health professional who is an integral part of the school team.

"My experience as a counsellor working with adolescents gave me the passion to found Place2Be in 1994. I knew that we needed to reach children's problems sooner rather than later so their problems don't grow with them and they can view life with a sense of hope and engage with their learning."

- Benita Refson OBE, President of Place2Be

What difference does Place2Be make in your child’s school?

Place2Be aims to improve the confidence and emotional wellbeing of children by supporting them when they are experiencing challenging life issues such as bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown, neglect and trauma. When they are supported in this way, they are able to learn more easily.

Times when Place2Be is especially useful

There are times when children feel particularly sad, confused, fearful or angry, due to, for example, family challenges such as separation or illness, bereavement or family breakdown, or challenges at school such as bullying or friendship issues. Some children may become withdrawn; others may become demanding or challenging in their behaviour: that’s when having Place2Be in school is especially helpful.

How we help children and families

All pupils can find help with friendship issues and other worries by choosing to visit Place2Talk. These short lunchtime sessions are open to individuals and to groups.

Place2Be also works with children one-to-one and in small groups, offering regular time-tabled support for those who will benefit most.
