Welcome from the Head

Thank you for taking a look at our website, I hope you find it helpful. I am very proud to be the Executive Headteacher at St. John’s. When you come and have a look at our school, the first thing you will note is how polite, caring and enthusiastic our children are. Our children show pride in their school.

Our aim is for our children to become confident, resourceful, enquiring and independent learners who make a contribution to our local community and society. We want our children to be happy as happy children learn.

Our staff works so hard to make sure that our children have the best learning opportunities. If you need any additional information or would like to visit the school to discuss anything further, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Welcome

St John’s school is a one-form entry Church of England Primary School. We are located in Bethnal Green in the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. We have a 25 place nursery and currently have 154 pupils on roll aged from 3 – 11 years. Many of the pupils in St John's live in the immediate locality of Bethnal Green, with others coming further afield from the neighbouring boroughs of Hackney and Newham. Our pupils come from a variety of socio-economic backgrounds and a total of twenty-one cultures are celebrated amongst our families. Pupils are indeed happy here, and we are committed to providing an environment where children can develop their skills and talents in a variety of ways. We want our pupils to feel confident and joint partners on the learning journey, as they become successful learners and develop to their fullest potential.

Welcome from the Chair and Vice Chair of Governors

Welcome to the website for The Federation of St John’s Bethnal Green and St Paul’s Whitechapel Primary Schools in East London. I am proud to be the current Chair of Governors and delighted, along with my devoted governor colleagues, to be able to manage the 3 responsibilities that we have:

  • Ensuring the vision, ethos and strategic direction of the schools
  • Holding the leaders to account and challenge and support them
  • Overseeing the finances and premises of the schools and ensure they are used in the best interest of the children

The Federation works really well and both schools are ones of which we are very proud. As Governors we all meet together at least 3 times a year and also have an annual Awayday. Our 2 sub-committees (Pupil and Curriculum and Finance, Personnel and Premises) meet in between full Governor meetings. We also come into the schools regularly for some of the many events and on focused visits to talk to children and staff about different aspects of the schools.

We look forward to your support in helping the staff and parents/carers nurture the future adults of this world.

- Dr Robin Precey (Chair of Governors) and Fr Richard Springer (Vice Chair of Governors)
